Bethpage High School is proud to announce that 54 of its students have earned the prestigious New York State Seal of Biliteracy (NYSSB). The NYSSB is awarded to students who demonstrate a high level of proficiency in English and at least one additional world language.
Earning the NYSSB involves a multi-step process that includes successfully completing state and national language exams, along with additional demonstrations of reading, writing, listening, and speaking proficiency. The program encourages students to develop their language skills to a high level and showcases their readiness for college and careers in a global society. Students who receive the NYSSB not only have the distinction affixed to their high school diploma but also wear a special medallion at graduation.
Bethpage’s recipients this year included three students – Cleverson Hernandez, Ava Morgan and Lukas Varratos – who received the seal for proficiency in two or more world languages, in addition to English. Ava also spoke at the ceremony, emphasizing the importance of learning another language and putting it into practice. She plans to study international law in college next year.
Bethpage congratulates these students on this exceptional accomplishment. Their achievement not only sets a standard of excellence at Bethpage High School but also positions them as competitive candidates for postsecondary education and employment.
