As the school year drew to a close, we had a few questions for the Class of 2026 salutatorian, Anthony Hacker. Read our interview with him below to hear about his favorite high school memory, favorite class, and his advice on the college application process!

What years were you at Bethpage schools?

I attended the Bethpage School District from 2013 through 2026.

What is your favorite elementary school memory?

One of my favorite elementary school memories was participating in Field Day and forming many of the friendships that grew throughout middle school and high school.

What is your favorite high school memory?

Some of my favorite high school memories were the early morning varsity basketball and soccer practices that once felt grueling in the moment but looking back, became meaningful opportunities to bond with my teammates and create lasting memories with friends.

What was your favorite high school class?

My favorite high school class was AP U.S. History because I have always enjoyed learning about history and understanding how society has evolved over time. I especially appreciated the class’s emphasis on critical thinking and analysis.

Who or what motivated you the most in school?

My greatest motivation in school was my personal drive for future success. I have always believed that consistent hard work and dedication will ultimately pay off in the long run.

What faculty member do you think influenced you the most?

Mrs. Whalen had a significant positive influence on me throughout high school. In addition to strengthening my argumentative and analytical skills, she was someone I could frequently speak with about both academics and broader topics outside the classroom.

What classes or extracurriculars benefited you the most? Why?

A combination of Mock Trial and Investment Club benefited me the most. Since I hope to pursue a career in corporate law, these activities allowed me to explore both the legal and business aspects of the field while further developing my interest in it.

What advice would you give to incoming freshmen about their high school years?

Take the most challenging classes in the subjects you genuinely enjoy. When you are interested in what you are learning, the workload becomes far more manageable and rewarding. I would also encourage students to get involved and make the most of their high school experience.

Do you have any advice for students about starting the college application

process?

Start researching colleges and universities early. Strong writing does not have to be completed all at once, and giving yourself time to brainstorm and revise will help you better communicate your ideas and experiences. I would also recommend building strong relationships with your teachers to make the recommendation letter process easier and more personal.

Any tips for students on how to stay on top of their course load?

Surround yourself with motivated, like-minded peers who share your academic goals and interests. Staying organized, managing your time effectively, and avoiding procrastination also make balancing coursework much easier.

What is your proudest high school accomplishment?

My proudest high school accomplishment was becoming the salutatorian of my class. This achievement reflects the dedication, discipline, and effort I consistently put toward my education throughout high school.

Where do you hope to see yourself in 20 years?

In 20 years, I hope to be a successful in-house lawyer in the finance or technology industry in New York City, while continuing to grow both professionally and personally.
