Last week, students in Bethpage’s Extended School Year (ESY) program explored the world of robotics with members of the Regal Eagles, Bethpage’s acclaimed robotics team. This annual summer tradition is a favorite for both the ESY students and the Regal Eagles.
Using LEGO Spike Prime Kits, the Regal Eagles introduced students to the fundamentals of robotics by helping them build and program LEGO carnival rides, which they controlled using iPads.
Throughout the morning, students participated in a series of 45-minute workshops tailored to their age and skill level. In addition to learning robotics and coding concepts, they strengthened fine motor skills, practiced following detailed instructions and collaborated with their peers.
This annual partnership highlights the power of peer mentorship, giving students of all abilities the opportunity to explore STEM in a fun, inclusive and supportive environment.
