Bethpage UFSD is proud to announce that 10 Bethpage High School seniors have earned recognition in the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program. Diya George Bebin has been named a National Merit Semifinalist, while nine additional seniors have been named National Merit Commended Students.
The National Merit Scholarship Program, established in 1955, recognizes scholastic achievement and encourages academic excellence. Students enter the program by taking the PSAT/NMSQT during their junior year. Semifinalists represent fewer than 1% of U.S. high school seniors and are the highest-scoring students in their state.
As a Semifinalist, Diya has the opportunity to advance to Finalist standing by completing a detailed scholarship application. The application considers students’ academic records, leadership and participation in school and community activities, and a recommendation from a high school official. Approximately 7,500 Finalists will be selected to receive Merit Scholarship awards next spring.
Nine Bethpage High School seniors have been named National Merit Commended Students: Arman Ahmed, Hunter Chinda, Grace Cho, Kamakshi Khemani, Gavin Kuang, Sophia Leis, Anjali Ponugapati, Dhriti Shah and Saad Siddiqui. The students scored among the top 50,000 students nationwide who took the PSAT/NMSQT. Although Commended Students do not continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, the recognition reflects their strong academic performance and places them among a distinguished group of high-achieving students nationwide.
Bethpage congratulates Diya and all nine Commended Students on this significant academic achievement and celebrates their hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence.
