Bethpage High School celebrated homecoming on Oct. 10, bringing students, families, alumni and community members together for a day filled with Golden Eagle pride. Although the varsity football team fell to the South Side Cyclones in a hard-fought 21-14 game, the day was a spirited celebration of the Bethpage community.
Festivities began that morning with the annual homecoming parade, which made its way from JFK Middle School to Bethpage High School. Led by the marching band and cheerleading squad, the procession featured the Golden Girls Kickline Team, local PAL football players and cheerleaders, colorful class floats and this year's homecoming king and queen, Brady Herbert and Elizabeth Hoffner. Families and neighbors lined the streets along the route, cheering as the parade made its way toward the high school.
By early afternoon, the excitement had shifted to the football field. Fans filled the parking lot and gathered for tailgates along Cherry Avenue, while district PTAs sold spirit wear and the Eagle's Nest served food and refreshments. By the 1:30 p.m. kickoff, the stands were packed with Golden Eagle supporters ready to cheer on their team.
The Golden Eagles put up a valiant fight against the South Side Cyclones, keeping fans on the edge of their seats before ultimately falling 21-14.
Halftime brought plenty of entertainment, with performances by the Bethpage High School Marching Band, Golden Girls Kickline Team and cheerleading squad. Adding a lighthearted moment to the festivities, Principal Nick Jantz chauffeured the homecoming king and queen past the stands in a golf cart, drawing cheers and laughter from the crowd.
While the final score wasn't what the Golden Eagles had hoped for, the day was a celebration of the traditions, friendships and community spirit that make Bethpage homecoming a highlight of the school year.
