On Oct. 20, students at CCS celebrated the power of the written word for National Day on Writing.

Established by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), National Day on Writing encourages people of all ages to reflect on the many ways writing plays a role in their lives, from expressing ideas and telling stories to communicating, learning and connecting with others.

Ms. Inghilterra introduced the celebration to CCS as an opportunity for students to explore why writing matters, both inside and outside the classroom.

Using the national theme #WhyIWrite, teachers were encouraged to engage students in age-appropriate activities, including classroom discussions, creative writing prompts and reflections on the question, “I write because…”

The celebration highlighted that writing is more than an academic skill. It is a powerful tool for creativity, self-expression and communication that students will use throughout their lives.

This year's observance marked the beginning of what CCS hopes to develop into a larger schoolwide celebration of writing in the years ahead.
